Choose a venue or an airbnb that either has horses, or allows you to bring in your own. One of my all time favorite weddings I had the honor of photographing was for an Austrian couple who travelled all the way to Montana to have their elopement. It was just them, my husband (the officiant) and myself. We found an Airbnb that offered to let us ride their horses for photos.
I will say, it was difficult to find the perfect Airbnb that also had the scenery my couple was looking for, but now that we found it, we'd love to go back! Planning a destination wedding in Montana is definitely a big task, so utilizing your photographer to help you location scout, plan, and find other vendors is my biggest recommendation!
If you have never ridden a horse before, I strongly recommend finding a place near you that will give you lessons. Especially if you go the Airbnb route and don't know the temperment of the horses. Ideally, for photos, you will want to make sure that the horse is well-tempered, preferably a retired summer camp horse (they make the best horses for new riders.)
Remember the horse is not just a prop, but a living being, so being prepared to ride a horse is the responsible and right thing to do.
There are also several wedding venue in Montana that offer horses in their venue packages! Personally, I would love to photograph at Hart Ranch as it is a bucket list venue for me to photograph!
For specific venues that can host multiple guests check out these venues!
Live Oak Belgians - About two hours from Glacier Airport.
Hart Ranch - Less than thirty minutes from Bozeman Airport!
Flathead Lake Lodge - About 40 minutes from Glacier Airport
Clydesdale Outpost - About 40 minutes from Glacier Airport
